It would be a mistake to view the COVID-19 pandemic as a ‘crisis’ as this would imply it has a definite beginning, middle and end. The reality is that this pandemic has created a new world order. Nothing will ever be the same again. It is critical that leaders recognise this. The effectiveness of their leadership will be measured by whether or not they successfully navigate their teams into the new world order.

The onset of the pandemic was sudden and unexpected, which meant leaders had to focus on the implementation of emergency measures. The adrenalin of executing emergency responses often obscures the bigger picture, and while leaders can shine in these situations, it is also likely that these periods of disaster often leave leaders feeling depleted. Sustaining the momentum from a response to an emergency is critical if teams are to be managed effectively.

The lockdowns that are in place in South Africa and across the continent, have tested the mettle of even the most experienced leaders as they navigate their way through uncharted territory. Setting up logistics and support for teams to work remotely is one thing, but keeping these teams motivated long-term is quite another. What is required from leaders now is establishing new ways of working, which won’t impact negatively on team morale and harmony.

SuperLead Advisory can guide leaders through this tough transition. We can help improve leadership effectiveness, team performance and improve team dynamics through the deployment of our comprehensive ‘Team Effectiveness Solution’, which is anchored in the ‘Insights Discovery Platform’. We are an accredited and licensed distributor of Insights Discovery, a psychometric tool based on Jungian psychology. It is designed to help teams diagnose and confront team dynamics issues, improve relationships, inspire collaboration and ultimately increase productivity.

One of the biggest challenges with current remote working situations is the lack of actual face-to-face interaction with co-workers. Guarding against likely declines in productivity and engagement is critical to an organisation’s ability to survive and thrive in these trying and uncertain times. We can help enhance team collaboration and communication, and leverage the collective power of your organisation to deliver results, while teams working remotely.
